Michael Boston

![]() Michael was blessed to have found his passion for the art of dance at a young age, and by the time he laced up his first pair of tap shoes on he was hooked. Michael's training began at the age of 4 and since has completed all major levels of Gilbert and ISTD tap exams with honours. Michael has received numerous awards in festivals and competitions here in Canada as well as the US. His professional career started at the age of sixteen, where he was accepted as a star dancer in a NYSO’s production of Tap Kids. At the age of 17 Michael moved to NYC to further his training with Savion Glover, Barbra Duffy,Dianne Walker, Roxanne Butterfly, Andrew Nemr, Lisa Hopkins, Mark Goodman and many others. Since then Michael has been fortunate enough to travel all over the US, Mexico and Europe packing major theatres spreading his love of TAP. He’s had the opportunity to adjudicate major competitions in Canada and the US, choreographed for film and theatre, taught master classes and shoot feature films. Most recent, Michael has been teaching in and around Victoria, and is well respected for his award winning choreography and energetic teaching style. Now Michael is ready to share his experience and passion for the art of tap dance while supplying the highest level of technical and professional training possible. His goal is to create a greater understanding and appreciation for tap by creating some of the strongest dancers Victoria has ever seen!! |
Janice Tooby-MacDonald

![]() Ms. Tooby-MacDonald is a member of the Professional Dance Teachers Association and The National Dance Education Association, and has successfully operated her own school of dance since 1973, aiding students to achieve recognition with performing awards at local, provincial, and national levels. A progressive, energetic and dedicated teacher Janice has trained with major L.A. and New York faculties in Vancouver, Calgary, Seattle, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Las Vegas, Maui and New York. This has allowed her to further her knowledge of the art of tap dance under the tutelage of such international dance luminaries as Savion Glover, Gregory Hines, Al Gilbert, Dianne Walker, Arthur Duncan, Heather Cornell and Henry LeTang. With an extensive background in tap dance, Janice has years of experience and knowledge to share with her students. Her many experiences include choreographer for the Butchart Gardens summer stage shows for 13 years, and a member of the teaching faculty of the Canadian College Of Performing Arts since its inception in 1998. |

Kelsey has been taking tap and jazz since the age of 4. She began dancing in Winnipeg, Manitoba before coming to Victoria in 1994 to be taught by local teachers such as Sherry Black, Alison Charlton, Gail Neuman, Marlene Abney, and Lynn Stevens. |
Stacy Sanderson
Jazz Instructor
Dancing since the age of 2, Stacy's dance career has spanned nearly two decades. She has trained extensively in Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, Tap, Modern, Contemporary, Lyrical, and Stage. After training in Colorado until the age of 15, she moved to Victoria and began dancing over 20 hours a week. Right out of high school, Stacy landed a position in The Source Dance Company in Vancouver, where she spent the 2006/2007 season. After sustaining numerous foot injuries, she began teaching dance while in recovery and has since grown to love it. Always pursuing new dance experiences, Stacy has travelled overseas to Italy and performed in several cities around the country. Her personal dance achievements include scholarships to the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and Harbour Dance Centre in Vancouver, and numerous festival awards including Most Outstanding Jazz Dancer. Stacy's choreography has also been extremely well received. She is always bringing new ideas and styles into her classes, and her energy rarely goes unnoticed. Stacy is currently working towards a Kinesiology degree at the University of Victoria while remaining active and present in the local dance community. |
Amber Lamanes
Ballet Instructor
At a comparatively young age, Amber Lamanes has amassed a formidable array of achievements in both dance and teaching. Her early dance training took place in Langley, at TridanceAcademy, where she studied RAD Ballet under Florence Skinner and also obtained a thorough grounding in Jazz, Modern, Musical Theatre and Tap. While a student there, she was accepted for three successive Spring Seminars in Vancouver. At 17, she earned a scholarship for six weeks of intensive study at the Walnut Hill Ballet School in Boston, Mass.After graduating high school in 1997, she continued her ballet training in Cecchetti at H.Z Ballet Classique, before moving on to the Alberta Ballet School in Calgary where she completed her Elementary and Intermediate Cecchetti ballet exams. Formal training as a teacher took place initially at the Edmonton School of Ballet’s Teacher Training course. She also received training and experience through the Ballet B.C. Mentorship Program. Acceptance into The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School’s Teacher Training Program gave her intensive instruction in Ballet, Character, Modern, Jazz, Anatomy, Dance History, Music History and Pilates. Since completing those studies, she has organized and taught dance programs in recreation centres and gymnastic schools. Amber taught for two years at The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School and after moving to Victoria B.C, at Westcoast Academy of Performing Arts. Amber is now preparing for the course of study that will culminate in a Royal Academy of Dance Teaching Degree. In addition to her dance and teacher training, she has been active in company work, performing in Nutcracker, rehearsing dancers and choreographing. She is also an accomplished musician, having achieved her Royal Conservatory of Music ARCT in classical Piano. |
Angela Mousseau
Modern/ Tap Instructor
Angela Mousseau studied modern dance at The University of The Arts in Philadelphia with choreographers, directors and dancers from Paul Taylor Dance Company, Martha Graham Dance Company, Philadanco, Momix, Limon Company, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Koresh Dance Company and more. While in Philadelphia, Angela performed in the Philadelphia Fringe and the National Dance Day in Philadelphia. Upon graduating in 2002, Angela moved to New York to dance professionally. In New York she performed with Jana Hicks, AKRNYM, The Fringe and many others. Angela's class focuses on Limon, Horton and Taylor modern dance techniques. After dancing and teaching for many years in the United States, Angela is back in her hometown of Victoria— excited to share her knowledge, experience and love of dance. |
Phoebe Rumsey
General Manager/ Musical Theatre
![]() Ms. Rumsey is the new General Manager of Boston Dance Collective. She brings to this positions much expertise and enthusiasm. Phoebe is confident in the unification of Boston Dance Collective and Victoria Dance Connection and is looking forward to offering a high caliber of training in a professional environment to students of all ages. She will be working closely with Dana Callan & Artistic Director, Michael Boston to bring students and parents the high level of management they have become accustomed to. The push this year will be to offer thorough training in tap, jazz, hip hop, modern, ballet and musical theatre provided by an innovative and dynamic faculty. Ms. Rumsey earned a Bachelor of Art in Dance from SFU, and a Master of Arts in Theatre from UNLV. She comes to Boston Dance Collective after a successful year as Principal for Kaleidoscope Performing Arts Studio. She has had an extensive professional career that allowed for much traveling. She spent 5 years working as a dancer, singer and swing in Las Vegas at the Rio Hotel and Casino’s Masquerade Show in the Sky, as well as shows at Caesars, Harrahs, and Studio 54 at MGM. She was a cast member of lavish Broadway revues in Japan and raucous Can-can shows in the Yukon. She was a dancer and singer in the 2001 World Tour of Sixties Mania, which traveled extensively through North America. Ms. Rumsey has previously taught dance classes in Toronto and Vancouver and now currently teaches at BDC, VDC, Dansko Studios and Kaleidoscope Performing Arts Studio. Yanik Giroux
Musical Theatre
![]() Singer-actor-dancer, Yanik is a graduate from the University of Montreal (B.Mus-Voice Performance), the Canadian College of Performing Arts and the Chemainus Theatre Acting Internship Program. As a performer, he had the chance to work on stage and television, with the Montreal Metropolitan Orchestra (Turandot), Theatre North West (Dancock’s Dance), Chemainus Theatre (Hello, Dolly!, Sherlock Holmes), Belfry Theatre (Urinetown), Pacific Opera Victoria (La Traviata), ButchartGardens (Showtime!, Love Matters) and Kaleidoscope Theatre (Aladdin) to name a few. Not only a performer, he has been working for several years as a voice/piano teacher, vocal coach, music director and accompanist for many productions around town (Oak Bay Beach Hotel, Legends, Broadway Broads, and other musical reviews), and has been teaching musical theatre at the Canadian College of Performing Arts, Victoria Dance Connection, Dance Unlimited and Kaleidoscope Performing Arts Studio. He participated in national and international tours and music festivals across Canada and in Europe, and his travelling plans always include voice coachings (mentors in NYC, Toronto, San Francisco). Yanik is a BC Registered Music Teacher in Voice, Associate of TrinityCollegeLondon (UK) and also music director for The Victoria Male Voice Choir. Yanik is very excited to be back at the Victoria Dance Connection and be part of the Boston Dance Collective. |
